Do replies grow a small X (Twitter) account? Five weeks of one creator's data
Short answer
For this account, the busy reply days were the good days. On days with 26 or more of his replies, his posts reached a median of 556 impressions, against 357 on the other days. Posts where he answered in his own thread within the first hour reached 582 against 343. Replies under accounts over 100k followers were seen by strangers; replies under small accounts started conversations.
Reply on the days you post
He wrote a median of 26 replies a day, 111 or more on the busiest tenth of days. Split at his own median for a posting day (26 replies), the busy days carried the better posts:
| Group | Posts | Median impressions | Median replies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Days with 26 or more replies | 40 | 556 | 10 |
| The other days | 29 | 357 | 4 |
Be there in the first hour
Answering in his own thread within 60 minutes went with 1.7× the impressions and a median of 10 replies instead of 4. Replying to others in the 30 minutes before posting showed a smaller gap (546 against 434, 1.26×), below the 1.3 the Deep Check needs before it makes a step out of it.
| Group | Posts | Median impressions | Median replies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Answered in the thread within 60 minutes | 31 | 582 | 10 |
| Did not | 44 | 343 | 4 |
| 3 or more replies in the 30 minutes before | 21 | 546 | 7 |
| Fewer | 54 | 434 | 6 |
Two kinds of replies: reach and conversation
Where a reply lands decides who sees it. Under big accounts, his replies reached strangers; under small accounts, the author answered back. Both are worth doing, for different reasons. (Replies with a known parent, 15 May 2026 to 27 Aug 2026.)
| Account replied to | Replies | Median impressions | Answered back |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 1k followers | 213 | 11 | 58% |
| 1k to 10k | 157 | 9 | 56% |
| 10k to 100k | 31 | 21 | 32% |
| Over 100k | 48 | 217 | 17% |
Ask in your replies
56% of his substantive replies that ended with a question got an answer, against 42% of the ones without (248 and 591 replies). Length made little difference below 200 characters.
What made no difference
The first post of a day did about as well as the later ones (1.0×, 28 against 48 posts). A second or third post did not cost him reach in these weeks.
What this is, and what it is not
One account: @lucas_builds, the maker of Own Edge, a small creator in the AI and building niche. Posts and replies are his own, read through the official X API; posts from the last two days of the period are left out while their numbers still grow. Each comparison is a median with the number of posts behind it, not a test against chance, and it cannot tell cause from coincidence: a day with many replies may also be a day with more energy for the post itself. The replies other accounts sent him are not used here.
These numbers, for your account, every week
The goal plan measures exactly this on your own posts and replies: the days you replied, the first hour, where your replies land, who replies back and whom you left without an answer. It starts with a Deep Check. Cancel at any time.
Your posts are not the median
The same test runs on your own posts: the free plan reads your latest 50 through the official X API, read-only, and shows whether these groups hold up for you; the Deep Check names every one. About 2 minutes, no payment details.
