What gets more replies on X (Twitter)?
Short answer
Asking for them. Posts that invite a reply (an open question, a pick-one, a share-yours or an agree-or-disagree) got reliably more replies than the same creator's other posts in 9 of 13 accounts and reliably fewer in none; the median account saw +65%. Posts that ask for nothing were reliably lower in 10 of 13 accounts. Quote posts went the other way: reliably fewer replies in 7 of 11 accounts, median −62%.
Ask, and say for what
An ask counts when the post expects something from its readers: an opinion, a choice between named options, their own project or number, or a yes or no. Rhetorical questions the post answers itself do not count, and neither does advice in the imperative. Inviting a reply did not cost reach either: it was reliably higher for reach in 4 of 13 accounts and lower in none.

What to do with this
End the post with one question that you do not answer yourself, or give two options to pick from. Write the take as your own post rather than as a quote. These are medians over 13 accounts; in your account some of them may not hold, and the Deep Check tests each one on up to 200 of your posts.
What this sample is, and what it is not
13 public creator accounts on X, chosen by us, mostly in tech, AI and indie building, with 62 to 3,735 followers (median 1,424). For each we took the newest original posts up to 500 (114 to 499 per account), published between 2 Jan 2026 and 14 Sept 2026, with their public reach, bookmarks and replies. Replies to other posts are left out.
Every account was measured only against its own posts, so a large account cannot outvote a small one. “Reliably higher in 5 of 12 accounts” means the gap passed that account's own test against chance in 5 of the 12 accounts that had enough posts in the group. It is a pattern in these accounts, not a law of X, and it does not prove that the kind of post causes the gap.
Your posts are not the median
The same test runs on your own posts: the free plan reads your latest 50 through the official X API, read-only, and shows whether these groups hold up for you; the Deep Check names every one. About 2 minutes, no payment details.
